I recently had the privilege of speaking with Andrea Wilson Woods, a patient advocate, CEO, and founder of Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association and Cancer University. During our conversation, Andrea shared her personal journey of caregiving, grief, and transformation, as well as her passion for making a positive impact in the world of healthcare.
Andrea's story began when she gained custody of her younger sister Adrienne at the age of 22. When Adrienne was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer at the age of 15, Andrea became her primary caregiver and devoted her twenties to raising her sister. After Adrienne passed away just 147 days after her diagnosis, Andrea channeled her grief into creating Blue Faery, a nonprofit dedicated to helping liver cancer patients and families.
Through Blue Faery, Andrea has become a leading voice in liver cancer awareness and advocacy, providing support and resources for patients and families affected by this disease. Her best-selling memoir, "Better Off Bald: A Life in 147 Days," is a moving tribute to her sister and a testament to the power of resilience and love beyond loss.
With Cancer University, Andrea has expanded her vision of patient empowerment and education into the digital space. Cancer University provides innovative and accessible resources for cancer patients and caregivers, from webinars to e-books to interactive tools.
During our conversation, Andrea shared valuable insights on living courageously through adversity, dealing with grief, and channeling loss into positive change. Her message of love beyond loss is a source of hope and inspiration for anyone facing difficult challenges in life.
Overall, my conversation with Andrea was a moving and inspiring experience. Her passion for patient advocacy and her commitment to making a positive impact in healthcare is a testament to the power of resilience and the human spirit. I encourage everyone to follow her work and to learn from her valuable insights on patient advocacy, cancer awareness, and living courageously through adversity. #healthcare #patientadvocacy #cancerawareness #resilience #BlueFaery #CancerUniversity #AndreaWilsonWoods #BetterOffBald
